Swimming World Championships: "I had trouble sleeping after my medal," confesses Yohann Ndoye-Brouard

Swimming World Championships: "I had trouble sleeping after my medal," confesses Yohann Ndoye-Brouard

The three French competitors competing in the heats in Singapore this Thursday morning have all qualified, with a special mention for Beryl Gastaldello in the 100m freestyle.

Beryl Gastaldello ( 5th time in the 100m freestyle heats in 53''56, qualified): "That's what I wanted to do, honestly. It's my best time of the season and my second best performance in my career, so I'm putting myself in good shape to go faster tonight in the semi-finals (1:11 p.m. French time). I'm really satisfied. Obviously, I always want to go faster, but you have to take what you can take. I still have the 5th time, so it shows that I'm still quite fast compared to the world competition this morning. But the goal is still to get into the final, so I'll still have to enjoy myself, in a relaxed atmosphere, and rely on my experience since these are my fifth World Championships."

Yohann Ndoye-Brouard ( 13th time in the 200m backstroke heats in 1'56''82, qualified): "I had trouble sleeping after my medal, so I'm going to take a long nap this afternoon. I knew it would go quickly. I told myself that at 1'57"1, it wouldn't go, so I did well to give it my all at the end. It's a good sign, I feel good and I think I can still go faster. In the last 50m, I pushed a little to try to catch up, but overall it's okay."

Antoine Herlem ( 8th time in the 200m backstroke heats in 1'56''58, qualified): "That's what I wanted, to be in the semi-finals, it's done. Now I have to try to recover to go one more lap than I did in Fukuoka in 2023. That will be my goal tonight (2:26 p.m. French time). I'm already at full speed, so I'm very happy to get closer to my best time by not even a tenth. It's cool and a good omen because it confirms my current form. Now, if I make it to the final and I don't have my best time, it won't matter."
